Webcast: Building Capacity of the Maize Value Chain in Senegal
Andy Keck, Chief of Party for USAID’s Senegal Economic Growth (PCE) Project, recently briefed the USAID Bureau of Food Security on PCE’s experience building the capacity of the maize value chain in Senegal.
In his presentation, Mr. Keck explained how the project’s focus on supporting consolidators and helping build their relationships with smallholder farmers has dramatically increased production and sales of Senegalese maize. He noted the particularly important role played by increased availability of finance for maize production through contract agreements. He concludes his presentation by offering key lessons in partnering with businesses and other organizations inside and outside the maize value chain.
