A bipartisan group of national leaders launched the Energy Future Coalition 18 months ago to focus on practical solutions to the key energy challenges of the 21st century — energy poverty, climate change, and energy security. This independent consortium of business, labor, and nongovernmental representatives developed consensus around the future of coal, clean transportation, energy efficiency, electric power "smart" grids, bioenergy, and international engagement. IRG Advisory Board members Henri-Claude Bailly and Jeff Seabright co-chaired the Coalition's International Working Group, which recommended five specific initiatives. Challenge and Opportunity: Charting a New Energy Future outlines the recommendations of each of the Energy Future Coalition's working groups to promote an ambitious new approach to U.S. strategic energy policy.
